Release your past, enter your next season of life: healing!

Maybe you feel like you are going through the motions but not really living.

“Trauma” is anything that is too overwhelming for your brain to process, a disturbing or life-threatening event.

You’re left feeling broken, damaged, isolated, and detached from your authentic self. The impact of your past pain (bullying, divorce, witnessing violence, experiencing abuse, sudden loss, severe stressors in daily life, unhealthy relationships, health challenges) keeps showing up, even when you’ve thought you’ve moved past it.

Somehow these experiences keep making their way back to you impacting your personal relationships, occupational life, and the way you see yourself.

You try to downplay and not to think about it because it was a long time ago” or “it doesn't matter anymore, it's no big deal.” Or “other people have it worse”. You question if your response is “too dramatic” for what you’ve experienced.

You may be fed up with feeling triggered in everyday situations, being disconnected from yourself and your emotions. You may not even remember a time you didn’t feel like this.

Is trauma therapy right for you?

  • You hide your true self from others, you feel internal conflict about whether or not it is safe to even show people the real you. Feel the need to be “perfect” and fall into people pleasing patterns.

  • You’ve learned that speaking up for yourself and having your own needs just causes problems, so, you put yourself on the back burner and try to be everything that everyone else desires.

  • Do you find it difficult to form close relationships because you have trouble trusting people? You find that it’s easier to keep relationships superficial so you can avoid vulnerability.

  • You have trouble concentrating and making decisions because you doubt yourself.

  • The body and mind is flooded with stress, overwhelms your nervous system, and causes unpleasant responses.

You are ready to take back your life and feel like you again.

It may feel impossible now, but trauma therapy can help you enjoy a day in life where memories of pain can be remembered without being emotionally & physically triggered by them. I know that you are resilient and I believe when you can feel safe enough to talk about and process the hard stuff you can begin to heal. You’re ready to wake up each morning with purpose. Most of all, you’re ready to love yourself again.

How trauma therapy looks with me…

I understand the importance of feeling supported and nurtured during your healing journey. The work that we’ll do together will be extremely unique to you. My approach to trauma therapy is built from a holistic foundation: aiming to re-establish a healthy mind-body connection and restores trust and intimacy in the important relationships in your life.

We will take it as slow or as fast as you need as you are the expert on your life.

To begin, we set goals for our time together. Identifying reoccurring patterns that are problematic for you.

We work together to develop coping tools to feel safe, grounded, and confident in your ability to manage stressors when they come up.

Next, we get to the root of your pain and begin processing your past traumas. I primarily use EMDR (an evidence-based and body connection trauma approach to help women find deep healing).

You’ll build new understanding about the experience you’ve lived through as well as learn to challenge the negative stories impacting your functioning. You will learn to better understand your body, its reactions and develop new ways to effectively manage your reactions in the future.

FAQ’S

What other’s have asked about Trauma Therapy

  • We sometimes think of trauma as something reserved for survivors of abuse or wars. I’m here to tell you trauma is anything that is too overwhelming for your brain and body to process, a disturbing or life-threatening event.

Trauma is not the event itself, but rather what happens in our bodies when we experience something overwhelming. Trauma is a survival response, not an event.

What happened to us (abuse, loss of a loved one, or bullying) and what didn’t happen to us (lack of emotional stability or even neglect) gets stored in our bodies.

You are deserving of healing and support if you've had any experiences that have left impacts on your sense of self, safety, confidence, and relationships.

  • Understand how your trauma is manifesting in your body.

Identify and process the trauma you’ve experienced in your life

Choose effective coping skills to better manage your emotions

Build confidence that you can control your emotions and behaviors again

Create a space where you begin to feel safe enough to trust others and build meaningful connections once again

  • Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, is a therapeutic technique that aids the brain natural ability to heal itself and improve overall mental health.

When disturbing experiences happen to us, they can get locked in our brain in their original form. This can include pictures, sounds, body sensations, feelings, thoughts or beliefs. EMDR steps in with its bilateral stimulation, usually in the form of side-to-side eye movements, to sort of mimic what your brain does during REM sleep. This helps your brain reprocess those traumatic memories in a way that takes away their intense emotional charge.

EMDR therapy is the key to unlock that part of the brain so reprocessing can happen.

The best thing is, you don’t have to share the details of you trauma if you don’t want to.

People often find that after EMDR sessions, the emotional charge attached to traumatic memories decreases. It's like giving your mind a chance to heal and move forward.
